Newborn Photography

There’s a quiet awe in the early days of welcoming your baby home. The hush of your home in the morning light. The gentle curl of tiny fingers around yours. The way love reshapes your heart, completely and quietly, without asking for attention.

These first days pass quickly. But the connection, the softness, and the strength – it deserves to be remembered.

As an East Bay newborn photographer, my heart lies in honoring the beginning of your family’s newest chapter through timeless, intimate imagery. Not just of your baby, but of you, too. Because this phase of your life is just as much about the transformation you’re living through as it is about the new life you’ve welcomed.

Why Newborn Photography Matters for East Bay Expecting Parents

Newborn photography is more than a milestone for East Bay parents. It’s a way of seeing what’s unfolding around you through the haze of sleepless nights and the hum of new routines. Often, mothers tell me they didn’t realize how beautiful this season truly was until they saw themselves in the images I created.

And that’s what we do together.

These newborn portraits are reminders. For your baby, years from now, when they wonder where they began. For you, as a mother, to witness the depth of your love and the softness in your strength. For your family, to celebrate this quiet, powerful beginning.

The Laurel Smith Experience

What I offer as an East Bay newborn photographer is not just a session, but a guided, thoughtful experience from the moment we connect. My role is to make space – for pause, for presence, and for beauty to gently emerge. I’ll walk you through every detail so you can feel at ease, seen, and cared for.

I. The First Step to Newborn Photography

Our journey begins with a conversation. I want to know more than just your due date. I want to know how you’re feeling, how you envision this experience, and what would feel most supportive to you right now.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, your story is unique. Every detail you share helps me craft a newborn session that reflects your family with authenticity and care.

II. Planning Your Newborn Session with Intention

Once we’ve connected, we’ll begin planning your newborn session with heart and precision.

We’ll talk about the location – whether you prefer the comfort of your East Bay home or my naturally lit newborn photography studio in Dublin. We’ll explore wardrobe options, color palettes, and textures that feel like you. And we’ll consider the artwork you hope to create, so the images we capture feel just as meaningful on your walls as they do in your hands.

III. Session Day: A Space for Connection

On the day of your session, you don’t need to perform or pose. I’ll gently guide you through the experience with calm presence and subtle direction, creating space for real, unhurried moments to unfold.

Whether your baby sleeps soundly or squirms with wide eyes, we’ll work at a pace that honors your rhythm. I know how tender this time is, and I promise to meet it with the care it deserves.

The result? Newborn portraits that reflect your love, not in staged perfection, but in the honest, soulful connection that already lives between you.

IV. From Digital to Tangible: Heirloom Artwork That Lives with You

Your session doesn’t end with a gallery link. After our time together, I’ll invite you to a personal viewing and ordering appointment where we’ll explore your images together slowly, intentionally.

You’ll choose the photographs that speak most to your heart, and I’ll guide you through creating heirloom-quality artwork that brings those images to life.

Whether it’s a handcrafted album wrapped in linen or a framed gallery wall that grows with your family, every piece is made with museum-quality materials to ensure it lasts for generations.

These aren’t just photos. They’re a visual legacy of love, designed to remind you – daily – of how it all began.

When to Schedule Your East Bay Newborn Session

Ideally, newborn sessions are scheduled between 7 to 14 days after birth, when your baby is still beautifully curled and mostly sleepy. That said, I’ve photographed newborns up to six weeks old with just as much grace.

To ensure availability, I recommend reaching out during your second or early third trimester. We’ll tentatively reserve your due date, and once your little one arrives, we’ll finalize the session time based on how you’re feeling.

Because this season can be unpredictable, I build in space for flexibility, knowing that what matters most is your comfort and your baby’s.

Wardrobe and Styling for East Bay Newborn Photography

You don’t need to shop or stress. I’ve curated a studio wardrobe that includes ethereal gowns for mothers and beautiful options for newborns and siblings. Each piece has been carefully selected to photograph with timeless elegance while feeling natural and unforced.

If you prefer to wear your own clothing, I’ll guide you in choosing pieces that reflect your personal style while complementing the overall aesthetic we’re creating.

I also collaborate with trusted hair and makeup artists who specialize in natural, effortless beauty, so you feel cared for and confident when you step in front of the lens.

Newborn Photography Is More Than a Session: It’s A Way to Be Seen

Motherhood can feel like a blur – beautiful, yes, but also disorienting in its depth. Through this work, I want to offer you a mirror. A gentle reflection of the love you’re pouring out, the strength you don’t always recognize, and the softness you’re holding onto in the midst of change.

My hope is that these images help you see it all more clearly.

Whether you’re in Danville, Fremont, Livermore, Alameda, or anywhere across the East Bay, my newborn photography sessions are designed to meet you where you are both physically and emotionally.

If you’ve been wondering whether now is the right time, I’ll gently say: it is.

Let’s preserve it together.
